Across the world nearly 800,000 commit suicide each year which is one person every 40 seconds, according to the World Health Organisation.
With 65,000 people attempting suicide each year and hundreds of thousands of people thinking about committing suicide, World Suicide Prevention day aims to open up the conversations and help those in the darkness.
I don’t know about you but I felt very sad at the above statistics. So many lives, so much knowledge and love snuffed out because of despair. These aren’t just numbers, they are people, just like you and me.
I have attempted suicide at least four times, so I understand the horrible despair and loneliness that forces someone to feel like they should not exist any longer.
The reality is that we, humanity, need each and every life because in those lives there lives the hope and dreams for our species. Each of us have a special talent and ability to make this planet a better place to live, even if it only a warm smile and a great hug.
Please, be the one who reaches out to others in need when they are in pain. Give them love and understanding, making them know that someone cares.
You just may save a life.
